Location, Westbound US 50 just west of Bowie, Md. Approx. 10:30 on 9-11-02 Eastbound moving van blew a tire and went THRU the guard rails and overturned across all 3 westbound lanes. 1 dead in car under truck body, 2 dead in minivan that is overturned in front of truck, 2 serious,1minor injuries in moving van, 2 serious in car with top cut off. several others were "walking wounded" Assigned were Chief 19A, Eng.432 and Truck 39 (Bowie) Medic 18, Squad 18 & Chief 18 (Glenn Dale) Squad 77 & Chief77 (Arundel) Eng.283 & Chief28B (West Lanham Hills) Ambulances from Bowie and Helicopters Trooper2(Maryland State Police) & Eagle 1 (US Park Police) Maryland State Medical Examiner, And lots of Cops Almost forgot Co. 53 the Prince Georges County FD's HazMat Team. Bodies were extricated last, after investigators were ready to move them, by the Rescue companies (18 & 77) Road was not reopened until about 1600.
