This truck, carrying a multi-load of
agricultural chemicals, rolled on the George's Valley pass near
Tzaneen in the Limpopo Province, South Africa, during March 2005.
It took members of the Tzaneen Fire Department and SRT (Spill Response
Team), clad in hazmat suits, several hours to remove the
containers of chemicals from under the truck. A tow truck was
used to lift, and hold, the truck so that the workers could gain
access to all the chemicals lying under the truck. Very few of
the chemical containers actually ruptured and the majority of the
spill came from the diesel tank of the truck. The driver of the
truck was not injured in the accident.
