  • A candle for Denis Germain. I worked with him at stirling Forest ski center
when we were in our 20s. He was our pace setter and fast as hell. Excellent
skier, a real wise guy. Nice guy though. Ball of energy. I remember
watching him stand there doing "elephant hops" around a breakaway pole just
for fun, something I had a terrible time trying to do in our instructor
training course. I just kept thinking, "man he's got so much energy. Where
    does he get it?"

I didn't even know he was in the fire dept. I'd lost touch with him after we
went off and got "real jobs." Was horrified to see his name on the list.
Goes without saying what a terrible shame it was.

  • You Tarnish My Name

    You tarnish my name

    through your media

    you give slander

    where you should be proud

You say I was worth nothing

    and that America lost nothing

when those towers fell on me and

    my brothers and sisters

I am looking down upon you

to tell you, you are wrong

    I was somebody's son

    I was somebody's husband

    I was somebody's daddy

    I was somebody who took

the call to save a life

    I didn't have to

    I could have looked back

and walked back down that hall

But before me, I heard a cry out

I heard your wife saying please

    bring me out

But before me, I heard yet another

I think it was your son saying

    please don't leave me alone

So before you say, I am worth

    nothing when America called

    Give your son a hug

    and remember my baby

cries himself to sleep at night

    Give your wife a hug

    and remember my wife

cries herself to sleep at night

longing for me to hold her tight.
